Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if speech therapy services are covered by my insurance plan?

Simply complete the upper portion of the Insurance Verification Form and we’d be happy to check your benefits for you.  Other helpful information about insurance can be found here: What You Need To Know About Insurance Coverage

What type of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check and credit cards (Master Card, Visa, and Discover). Health Savings Account checks and credit cards can also be used to pay for services. Payment plans can also be arranged for those unable to make payment at the time of service. Automatic billing can be arranged as well.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Appointments can be scheduled by calling our main office line (303) 360-0727 or by filling out the Request an Appointment form on the website.

Can we request a certain therapist?

Of course!  We typically match therapists to children based on your child’s needs and the therapist’s areas of expertise.  Scheduling and therapist availability are also taken into account.  If you or your child don’t feel that we have found the best match for your child’s needs or personality,  please let us know and we would be happy to schedule your child with another therapist that may be a better fit.

How long are the therapy appointments?

The length of the appointments are determined by each child’s individual needs.  Appointments times can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes.

How long do evaluations take?

The length of the evaluation depends on your child’s age and needs.  For most children under the age of 6, a Speech and Language Evaluation usually takes about 60 minutes to complete.  For older children, the evaluation may take longer if more comprehensive testing of your child’s language system is needed. Reading Assessments usually take between two to three hours to complete.

What tests are used during the evaluation?

There are wide variety of tests that can be used depending on the child’s age, referring concerns and prior history.  Please refer to the ‘Services’ section of our website to learn more about the different types of  services and assessments we offer.

How much do evaluations cost?

Evaluations are tailored to meet the needs of each individual child so the prices may differ depending on the age of the child, the type of testing that is completed, and the length of the evaluation.  Please call the main office number for further information  (303) 360-0727.

Does my child need to go through the evaluation process if the only concerns are some articulation errors?

No, not unless it is required by your insurance company. Some insurance companies require that we complete an initial evaluation and submit the report to obtain authorization for therapy services. If this is not needed, the therapist will complete a brief articulation assessment during the initial therapy session and immediately start therapy.

My child has already been evaluated somewhere else. Do we need to schedule another evaluation?

No. Under most circumstances, the therapist can work directly off of the previous evaluation report .  If the evaluation was completed more than six months prior, additional testing to update scores may be needed so the therapist can tailor the intervention program to meet your child’s current needs.  Please forward any records prior to your child’s first therapy appointment so the clinician has time to review this information before they meet with your child.

How often will my child need to attend therapy?

Most children are scheduled for one to two times weekly depending on their needs. Floating appointment times are also an option for families who are unable to commit to a weekly session and who may prefer to schedule less frequently.  The willingness of families to complete home programming activities also impacts the frequency of the therapy sessions.

Will I be able to observe the therapy sessions?

We encourage parents to be involved in the therapy process.  As long as it doesn’t interfere with the therapy session, parents are encouraged to to observe and sometimes participate in the therapy session.  Sometimes it is beneficial for a child to have one on one time with the therapist and have parents observe for a few minutes at the end of the session.

Can my babysitter/nanny bring my child to therapy?

Yes.  It is sometimes very helpful for us to have contact with sitters and nannies who spend time with your child.  We can provide them with information and techniques so they can better support your child during the day.  Parents can remain in contact with their child’s therapist via phone and email so they can continue to receive up to date information about their child’s progress in therapy.

My child was raised in a bilingual environment.  How can therapy support both languages?

Both languages should be supported in the presence of a language delay or disorder.  The therapist will typically support English, the language of the greater community and most often the child’s current education system, during the therapy sessions.  The therapist will work closely with family members so they can support their child’s other language in their home and immediate community environments. On occasion, a translator will be needed to assist with this process. We currently have Spanish and French speaking therapists on our staff. Please refer to the handout Bilingual Language Learners for additional information.
